15 september 2014.

since wrapping up queerlab programming at elsewhere in early june, i've been relatively quiet. this summer went by so quickly, and it had a strange feeling throughout. i spent most of the season in raleigh, toying with the idea of living there since i've been working a day job nearby. while i'm sure raleigh is a fine place to live, i ultimately decided to settle in carrboro for a few months, at least until i figure out what my next big geographical step is going to be. at the moment it seems very likely that i will move back west long-term. when i first moved to california, i intended for it to be temporary. just like i needed to leave north carolina after living here my whole life through college, i also needed to come back for a while after staying away for so long. being back residentially rather than as a visitor for the past few months has been good overall, but i feel a pull, and there are a variety of omens that i'm interpreting as cosmic advice to head back to california. i'm not sure exactly when it will happen, but that's the current horizon.

this weekend i was part of a performance project at unc-chapel hill, my alma mater. visiting artists liz magic laser and wendy osserman (daughter and mother respectively) cast me and a handful of other local performers for their first collaboration, entitled from north carolina to south koreathe piece, sponsored by the art department and carolina performing arts, combined liz's video art with wendy's modern and improv dance, and it focused on digital news media and the experience of current events mediated by the internet. there is a photo from the performance attached! i apologize for not sending out an announcement about it ahead of time, but the rehearsal schedule has been intense. we built and performed the entire 50 minute piece in less than two weeks! also, the shows actually sold out quite early on because it was a small, intimate seating arrangement on the stage of memorial hall. it went very well, and performing at memorial was check off of my bucket list! i'm looking forward to the next time, whenever that may be.

if you are interested in seeing me perform in the future, go ahead and mark your calendar for december 4th, which is the opening night of a show i'm doing with little green pig, a theater company in durham, nc. we're still in the early phases of the project, but we're working primarily with the music of kraftwerk as a point of departure. there are some other thematic areas, but the kraftwerk aspect alone should be enticing enough for you to go ahead and make plans to be there. i'm excited to be working with some old collaborators, some old friends who are first-time collaborators, and some totally new people in my life. again, go ahead and save the date for opening night! we'll have shows thursday through saturday for the first three weeks of december.
